Selene is the central protagonist of the Underworld movie series, famed for her striking appearance, deadly combat skills, and tragic love story. Portrayed by Kate Beckinsale, Selene is a Vampire Death Dealer, an elite warrior tasked with hunting and killing Lycans (werewolves) in a centuries-old war.

Selene is known for her signature black leather outfit, icy blue eyes, and mastery of both firearms and hand-to-hand combat. Born in the early 14th century, she was turned into a vampire by Viktor, one of the Vampire Elders, who deceived her into believing the Lycans murdered her family. Her quest for vengeance defines her life as she becomes one of the most feared and effective Death Dealers in Vampire–Lycan lore.

The series follows Selene’s journey from loyal soldier to rogue rebel as she uncovers the truth about the Vampire–Lycan war. In Underworld (2003), she discovers that the Lycans, led by Lucian, are not the monsters she was taught to hate, and that Viktor himself killed her family. She defies her coven to save Michael Corvin, a human-Lycan hybrid whose bloodline holds the key to ending the war.

Across sequels like Underworld: Evolution, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Underworld: Awakening, and Underworld: Blood Wars, Selene becomes even more powerful, surviving betrayals and experiments that enhance her abilities. She gains hybrid powers and becomes nearly invincible, while fighting to protect Michael and their daughter Eve, who is hunted for her unique hybrid blood.

Selene’s enduring appeal lies in her complex character—cold and ruthless yet deeply loyal and compassionate. She is a tragic antiheroine who embodies the gothic, action-packed world of Underworld, blending supernatural horror, vampire mythology, and intense gun-fu combat.
